July 24, 2024 VRLTA Webinar: VTC Grant Opportunities The Virginia Tourism Corporation Grants Division has opened their grants applications for the Microbusiness Marketing Leverage Program. (July 16, 2024, and closes August 22, 2024), and hosted a webinar for our members to give them a look at how to make the most out of their applications.
The Virginia Tourism Corporation is offering these grant funds to spur economic activity and travel across the Commonwealth to support tourism-oriented small businesses and organizations. This grant is part of effort to drive shoulder season visitation and overnight visitation during the months of September to May. You will leave with a better understanding of the program, the marketing focus, who is eligible, in-kind and cash match requirements, timelines, and deadlines, and how to apply.

May 30, 2024 VRLTA Webinar: Introduction to the Work Opportunity Tax Credit from VirginiaWORKS The Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC) is a federal tax credit available to employers who hire individuals from eligible target groups with significant barriers to employment. Each year, employers claim over $1 billion in tax credits under the WOTC program. We were joined by Priscilla Skinner, the WOTC State Coordinator for Virginia, who oversees a group of dedicated staff who work to verify WOTC target group eligibility applications from employers that hire difficult to employ job seekers.
Prior to accepting the WOTC State Coordinator position, Ms. Skinner held the position of Workforce Service Representative within the Virginia Employment Commisssion assisting job seekers with resume writing, job referrals, job application assistance and Virginia Workforce Connection (VWC) registration assistance. Ms. Skinner completed over 30 years in the private sector Health Insurance space in Medical Claims Processing, Medical Claims Training and Medical Claims Operations Management.

February 13, 2024 VRLTA Webinar: VTC Grant Opportunities Check out the recording from our informative virtual session held on February 13th, 2024, hosted by the Virginia Tourism Corporation (VTC) Grants team! The VTC Grants Division opened THREE (3) grant programs on Thursday, February 8, 2024, and they will remain open until March 14, 2024. These are matching reimbursement grants for marketing and some event production expenses. Eligible applicants for the Marketing Leverage Program and Special Events & Festival Program include private tourism-oriented businesses, including lodging, hotels, B&Bs, campgrounds, restaurants, breweries, wineries, distilleries, museums, attractions, outfitters, tour guides, and boutique retail.
The goal of these programs is to grow visitation to Virginia and increase overnight stays. More information can be found on vatc.org/grants.
