The restaurant and foodservice industry in Virginia employs over 378,000 people in over 15,000 locations – 9% of employment in the state. 2018 Virginia restaurant sales were estimated at $18.1 billion. Restaurant and foodservice jobs in the state are expected to grow 10% by 2029, to over 416,000 jobs. The hospitality industry offers pathways to veterans, young people, and others through a variety of jobs.

As these industries continue to grow, businesses are in need of knowledgeable and well-trained professionals. Apprenticeships
The U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) awarded the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation (NRAEF) and the American Hotel & Lodging Association (AHLA) a $1.8 million contract to develop the Hospitality Sector Registered Apprenticeship (HSRA) – the first-ever apprenticeship program specifically for the restaurant, foodservice and hospitality industries. ​HOPES Program (Hospitality Opportunities for People ReEntering Society)
Using a Community Collaborative Model, the NRAEF has partnered with the Virginia Restaurant, Lodging & Travel Association, the Virginia Departments of Corrections, and local community-based organizations to connect young adults, ages 18-24 with current or previous justice-involvement, to career opportunities in the restaurant, foodservice and hospitality industry.

HOPES partners utilize the NRAEF’s Restaurant Ready training framework to equip young adults currently in correctional facilities, on parole/probation, or with former justice-involvement. Once a participant completes work-readiness and industry-specific training, HOPES helps them gain employment in a local restaurant and/or foodservice establishment. VRLTA and the NRAEF works with employers and partnering organizations to help further the professional training and education of HOPES participants through connections to credentials and apprenticeship programs. HOPES is funded by the U.S. Department of Labor Employment and Training Administration.

The Virginia Values Veterans (V3) Program is a Commonwealth of Virginia Department of Veterans Services Program whose mission is to educate and train employers throughout the Commonwealth on the Value of Virginia’s Veterans, and to help employers connect with these personnel assets to maximize the productivity of their workforce. We are committed to assisting employers recruit, hire, train, and retain Veterans. DARS' mission is to improve the employment, quality of life, security, and independence of older Virginians, Virginians with disabilities, and their families.

• Offers vocational rehabilitation to assist people with disabilities to prepare for, secure, retain or regain employment.
• Works with community partners and businesses to assist individuals with disabilities in achieving their goals of employment and/or independence.
• The Wilson Workforce and Rehabilitation Centerprovides comprehensive, integrated medical and vocational rehabilitation services to enhance an individual’s independence and employability.

Network2Work @ PVCC
