The pandemic devastated Virginia’s tourism and hospitality industry, causing record losses in revenues and shuttering roughly 1 in every 5 Virginia restaurants. The industry accounted for nearly half of the jobs lost in Virginia due to the pandemic.
Federal programs aimed at bolstering the industry have ended, leaving many in the industry without hope. But the General Assembly has a chance during Special Session to fully fund the $291 million VRLTA relief request for tourism and hospitality recovery. Here’s a snapshot of how the pandemic affected the industry:
