The pandemic devastated Virginia’s tourism and hospitality industry, causing record losses in revenues and shuttering roughly 1 in every 5 Virginia restaurants. The industry accounted for nearly half of the jobs lost in Virginia due to the pandemic.
Federal programs aimed at bolstering the industry have ended, leaving many in the industry without hope. But the General Assembly has a chance during Special Session to fully fund the $291 million VRLTA relief request for tourism and hospitality recovery.

Governor Northam has already prioritized funding the industry’s recovery, and Virginia legislators are back in Richmond for a special session beginning August 2 to decide on the allocation of new federal relief funds from the American Rescue Plan.
