This year, the Virginia ProStart Invitational brought back individual competitions for cake decorating, chicken fabrication, and napkin folding - and saw over 60 students compete!
WILLIAMSBURG – This year we welcomed the return of individual competitions to the Virginia ProStart Invitational programming, and saw over 60 student competitors rise to the challenge! The Cake Decorating, Chicken Fabrication, and Napkin Folding competitions were a blast for students and spectators alike - and we'd like to congratulate the students below for their wins:
CAKE DECORATING:

Winner: Katarina Beatty, Edison Academy
Instructor: Glenn Walden
Fun Fact: Katarina created a dark chocolate cake, layered with marshmallow buttercream and toasted fluff, and decorated with American buttercream frosting. All competitors were tasked with creating a "Happy Birthday Chef" cake for one of our lead judge's birthday - and Katarina's stood out among the rest.Â

CHICKEN FABRICATION:

Winner: Alena Zabler, Arlington Career Center
Instructor: Renee Randolph
Fun Fact: Alena attended this year's Virginia ProStart Invitational specifically to compete in the chicken fabrication competition - and that focus paid off with a win. Participants have just 10 minutes to fabricate a whole chicken into precise, industry-standard cuts In this fast-paced skills competition

NAPKIN FOLDING:

Winner: Ximena Puican, Arlington Career Center
Instructor: Renee Randolph
Fun Fact: Ximena took home the napkin folding competition crown thanks to her elegant "Lily Napkin" fold. As the competition winner, both Ximena and her work will be featured on the homepage of Virginia Linen Service, one of our valued Virginia ProStart Invitational sponsors.Â
