The VRLTAF welcomes new Board members as it continues growing workforce pathways and student support statewide

The Virginia Restaurant, Lodging, and Travel Association Foundation (VRLTAF) is proud to announce the appointment of its 2026 Board of Directors, welcoming new leadership and industry expertise to help advance hospitality education and workforce development initiatives across the Commonwealth.

Leading the Board in 2026 is Paul Kirschbaum of 1033 Consulting, who will serve as Chair of the Board. Joining him in a leadership role is Frank Brunetto of Envirocare, who has been named Vice-Chair and joins the Board as a new member. The Foundation is also pleased to welcome two additional new Board members: Wes Bausserman, J.R.’s Custom Catering and David Yanisko, Howard Feiertag Department of Hospitality & Tourism Management at Virginia Tech, whose experience spans catering, education, and workforce training.

“These appointments reflect the diversity, expertise, and passion that define Virginia’s hospitality and tourism industry,” says Dr. Jai Girard, Director of Workforce & Education at VRLTA. “As VRLTAF continues to expand its impact statewide, this new Board brings fresh energy and perspective to help guide the Foundation’s future.”

The newly appointed leaders will join several returning Board members who continue to provide valuable insight and stability to the Foundation’s work:

  • Paul Cooper, President & CEO, Retro Hospitality
  • Sarah White, Owner, Lost Dog Cafe & Westover Taco
  • John Shaffer, Director of Business Development, Luray Caverns
  • Eric Terry, President, VRLTA
  • Brian Wells, General Manager, The Hotel Roanoke
  • Tamera Wilkins Harris, Director of Community Relations, Richmond Region Tourism

The VRLTA Foundation Board of Directors plays a critical role in shaping programs that benefit students, educators, and employers throughout Virginia. In 2025, the Foundation reached a major milestone by awarding a record $32,000 in scholarships to students pursuing careers in hospitality and tourism. Building on this momentum, VRLTAF looks to expand educational access, grow workforce pathways, and strengthen partnerships across the industry.

With the newly appointed Board, the Foundation is energized to continue investing in the next generation of hospitality professionals and ensuring Virginia’s tourism workforce remains competitive, innovative, and well-prepared to meet industry demand. Through initiatives such as ProStart, workforce training partnerships, and educational outreach, VRLTAF remains committed to building a strong and sustainable talent pipeline for one of the Commonwealth’s most vital economic sectors.
