A New Beginning: VHTA now VRLTA
A little more than 22 years ago, VHTA was formed when the Virginia Hotel & Motel Association, the Virginia Restaurant Association and the Virginia Travel Council merged. On Monday, November 16th at the VA-1 Tourism Summit, our Association opened a new chapter when we changed our name to the Virginia Restaurant, Lodging & Travel Association.
2015 VA-1 Tourism Summit
Thank you all for attending this year's VA-1 Tourism Summit. We had an absolute blast with lots of amazing moments—great beer at Hardywood Park Craft Brewery, our VRLTA announcement, many opportunities to learn from great speakers, Visit Richmond VA's Jack Berry once again riding a small vehicle in a conference center ballroom, and Visit Virginia's Blue Ridge inviting us to the 2016 VA-1 Tourism Summit in Roanoke. What an inspiring event. But, perhaps the most inspiring part came from Tuesday's lunch when Steve Beyer of LeisureMedia360 invited 500 attendees to raise a glass in a toast to Vicki Gardner, Executive Director of Smith Mountain Lake Regional Chamber of Commerce. Vicki continues to be an amazing supporter of the tourism industry for the Smith Mountain Lake region, and we continue to wish her well as she recovers.
VRLTA Votes to Amend Position on Offshore Energy
Prior to the start of the VA-1 Tourism Summit, VRLTA held a vote to reconsider the Association's existing position to monitor offshore oil and gas drilling. That vote resulted in VRLTA amending its position to oppose offshore energy drilling in coastal Virginia.
