Wednesday, January 7, 2015
The Virginia Hospitality and Travel Association (VHTA) has promoted Kristian Havard to Vice President Governmental Affairs. Havard joined VHTA in June 2012 as Director of Governmental Affairs overseeing all the association’s legislative and regulatory efforts. Previously she worked at Advantage Strategies where she provided consulting services for clients that interacted with government entities.
A graduate of Louisiana State University with a degree in Political Science and Government, Havard was recently accepted into the 2015 Sorensen Institute for Political Leaders Program at the University of Virginia, an organization that seeks to improve political leadership in the Commonwealth.
“Kristian has done an excellent job representing the Virginia tourism industry and VHTA members with the General Assembly and various state agencies,” says Eric Terry, President of VHTA. “Her advocacy on behalf of Virginia’s restaurant, lodging and travel firms has helped tourism become Virginia’s third largest industry with over 216,000 jobs.”
“Our board is extremely pleased with the results Kristian has achieved over the past three years,” says Owen Matthews, Chairman of the Board of VHTA. “In a difficult economic time for the Virginia economy, tourism has continued to grow despite the effects of sequestration and reductions in governmental travel.”
